A Neighbor in Need
On October 14–15, we had the privilege of helping Mr. Ryan, an 83-year-old resident of Northeast Portland. Earlier this year, Mr. Ryan suffered a heart attack, and while his recovery has been steady, his home presented a serious challenge: a roof in critical disrepair.
His small bungalow was covered in three layers of aging cedar shake shingles, which had deteriorated over time and were causing multiple leaks. With winter approaching, the situation was urgent.
Answering the Call
When Mr. Ryan reached out to Catalyst, we knew we had to act. This wasn’t just about fixing a roof—it was about ensuring safety, dignity, and peace of mind for a beloved member of our community.
Recognizing the complexity of the project, we partnered with our friends at Peak Performance Roofing. Their skilled team stepped in to remove the damaged shingles, replace all the roof decking, and install brand-new Malarkey shingles—generously donated by Malarkey Roofing Products. They also replaced all the fascia around the home, ensuring a complete and lasting repair.
A Warm Winter Ahead
Thanks to the collaboration and generosity of our community partners, Mr. Ryan now has a secure, leak-free roof over his head. More importantly, he enters the colder months with renewed confidence and comfort, knowing that his neighbors care deeply about his well-being.
This project was more than construction—it was compassion in action. And it’s a reminder that when we come together, we can build more than homes—we build hope.
