When Compassion Turns Into Action: Catalyst’s Food Drive Story

A Moment That Mattered
It started with a simple conversation during our weekly project meeting on October 28, 2025. Marty, one of our dedicated Advocates, shared something that weighed heavily on our hearts: several clients were worried about losing their SNAP benefits. For many of them—low-income homeowners—those benefits are a lifeline.
The room grew quiet as the reality sank in. These weren’t just clients; they’re our neighbors, our friends. And they were facing hunger.
An Idea Born From Care
As we talked, a spark of hope emerged. With our annual Celebration Dinner just days away, why not turn this gathering into something more—a chance to rally together and provide real help? The idea: a food donation drive for nonperishable items.
There was one hurdle—we needed Shawn, our Executive Director, to support the vision. Mike, our Program Director, reached out, and Shawn didn’t hesitate. He was all in. Within hours, Shawn invited every Celebration Dinner guest to bring food donations, and Catalyst staff began reaching out to their own circles.
The Power of Community
What happened next was nothing short of inspiring. People responded—many who had never even heard of Catalyst before. They gave generously, not because they had to, but because they cared.
On November 1, the night of the Celebration Dinner, the outpouring of love was visible in every bag and box that came through the door. So much food was donated that it took multiple vehicles to transport it all. It was overwhelming—in the best possible way.
Turning Donations Into Connection
Just a few days later, nine Catalyst team members gathered to sort and pack the donations into boxes. Laughter filled the room as we worked side by side, knowing these boxes represented more than food—they represented hope.
In the end, we prepared over 30 boxes for delivery. But we made a promise: this wouldn’t be a simple drop-off. Each delivery would be a moment to connect, to listen, and to remind our clients that they are seen, valued, and loved.
A Ripple of Kindness
This food drive was more than an event—it was a movement of compassion. It showed what happens when people come together, united by empathy and a desire to serve.
To everyone who donated, sorted, delivered, and cared: thank you. Your generosity didn’t just fill pantries—it filled hearts.
