A Home with History
Ms. Wilson, an 81-year-old widow, shares her home with her 59-year-old disabled daughter. Together, they have worked tirelessly to preserve the house her father built in 1953—a place filled with memories and love.
From Roof to Renewal
In July 2024, Catalyst replaced the roof, making the home watertight for the first time in years. But the damage caused by decades of leaks remained inside. Cracked, sagging ceilings told the story of years of hardship. Our next mission was clear: restore the heart of this home.
An Unexpected Challenge
As preparations began in October, we discovered unsafe levels of asbestos in the ceiling drywall. Out of an abundance of caution, the project was paused until professional abatement could be completed. Once the danger was removed, we were ready to bring new life to the Wilson home.
Transforming Spaces
Over three days, our team installed new drywall in three bedrooms, the bathroom, and the hallway. Each ceiling was finished with beadboard and fresh paint, adding beauty and strength. We also repaired a rotted section of the bathroom floor and installed new laminate flooring—creating a safe, welcoming space for Ms. Wilson and her daughter.
A Community United
This transformation was made possible by 25 dedicated volunteers who contributed 280 hours of service. Their hard work and compassion turned a house in need into a home renewed. It was a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together to care for one another.
