When Everything Felt at Risk
For Ms. Perez, home has always been more than a place to live—it’s where she has raised her three children, built memories, and found stability over many years. But in late 2025, that sense of security was suddenly shaken. Ms. Perez received a 60-day eviction notice requiring her to complete a list of critical repairs identified by park management. Without the financial means to take on major repairs, she was faced with an impossible choice—and the very real fear of losing the home her family depended on.
In that overwhelming moment, Ms. Perez reached out to Catalyst NW, hoping someone might be willing to walk alongside her.
Stepping In at the Right Moment
When our team met Ms. Perez and saw the condition of the home, we knew this was a family we wanted to support. The needs were real, and the timeline was tight. Many of the repairs were weather-dependent, and we were approaching the end of the 2025 project season.
Rather than turning away, Catalyst NW worked closely with park management and committed to taking on the repairs, requesting an extension into mid-2026. We were deeply grateful when the extension was granted—because it meant Ms. Perez and her children were given something priceless: time and hope.
Addressing Immediate Safety Concerns
In March, one of our incredible partners stepped in to tackle several urgent repairs that could not wait. These included:
Replacing a severely deteriorated deck that posed a serious safety risk
Reinforcing a failing retaining wall
Repairing fencing in multiple areas around the home
Each repair brought the family one step closer to stability and safety.
Neighbors Showing Up, Hands and Hearts Ready
During this phase of the project, volunteers focused on repairing and replacing damaged siding and fascia, as well as preparing the home for paint. From the very first moment, volunteers arrived ready to serve—bringing skills, time, and compassion.
They worked side by side, knowing that each repaired board and each replaced panel meant something bigger: peace of mind for a mother who had been carrying the weight of uncertainty for far too long. Because of their efforts, Ms. Perez no longer has to live under the constant fear of losing her home.
Witnessing neighbors care for one another in such a tangible, loving way was truly inspiring.
The Impact You Made
This phase of the project was completed thanks to 38 volunteers who gave a total of 170 hours of service in support of the Perez family. That time represents more than labor—it represents dignity restored, fear replaced with hope, and a family reminded they are not alone.
What’s Next
The journey isn’t over yet. Our partners at ESP Painting will soon be stepping in to paint the home, giving it a fresh new look and fulfilling another key requirement from park management.
Every step forward brings Ms. Perez and her children closer to a future where they can remain safely rooted in the place they call home. We are deeply thankful to everyone who has played a role in this story—and proud to be part of a community that shows up when it matters most.
Together, this is what solidarity looks like.
