Sometimes a small repair, done at just the right time, can prevent a much bigger problem. This month, our Handle-It volunteers helped two Oregon City homeowners with repairs that brought both practical relief and peace of mind.

In September, our volunteers completed three Handle-It projects, giving 37 hours of their time to help neighbors in need. Four volunteers showed up with care, skill, and a willingness to go the extra mile.

We saw an opportunity to make a meaningful difference. The fence was more than a repair waiting to happen—it was a source of real concern for the family. We were grateful to come alongside them.

For this project, Catalyst returned to replace a poorly constructed deck that had become a serious safety hazard. The Davis family now has a beautiful new deck—a safe place to gather, rest, and enjoy for many years to come.

For more than 40 years, Mr. Ballou has called his Milwaukie home his own. As time passed, however, maintaining the home became more than he could manage alone. Due to physical limitations and the growing repair needs of the property, Mr. Ballou reached out to Catalyst in 2025 for help.

For the past 28 years, Ms. Hyneman has called her Milwaukie home her own. As an older adult living with a disability, maintaining her property can be difficult, especially when unexpected issues arise.

Like so many families living on a limited income, the Williams family found themselves facing a growing list of home repairs that simply exceeded their resources. Over time, one problem rose above the rest: their roof.

Through Catalyst’s DEEP Initiative, she found more than repairs; she found a team committed to restoring both her home and her sense of security.

November was another full and meaningful month for our Handle-It team as they continued caring for low-income homeowners throughout the Portland metro area.
