A Lifetime of Memories, Now Met with New Challenges

Mr. and Mrs. Patton have called their Portland home their own for the past 36 years—a place filled with memories, love, and the comfort of familiarity. Now in their 70s, the home they have so faithfully cared for has begun to need more attention than they are able to give. Despite their best efforts, the list of repairs grew longer and more daunting, leading them to reach out to Catalyst for support.

Restoring Safety and Peace of Mind

One of the most urgent concerns was the condition of two exterior sets of steps. Years of wear had left them unstable and unsafe, making everyday movement in and out of their home a real risk. Catalyst was honored to step in and address this critical need. With the installation of new, sturdy steps, the Pattons can now safely access their back door and porch—restoring not just mobility, but confidence and peace of mind.

Honoring a Legacy of Service

This project carried deep significance for the Catalyst team. It marked the final project for Construction Manager Darrell as he entered retirement. Darrell has dedicated 13 years to Catalyst’s mission—10 years as paid staff and 3 earlier years as a volunteer Crew Chief. His steady leadership, skilled hands, and genuine heart for service have left an indelible mark on our organization and the many homeowners he has helped along the way.

A Community United in Gratitude

To honor Darrell and his remarkable legacy, Catalyst staff came together to support this project in a special way. Paid and volunteer staff worked side by side, not only to complete the repairs, but to celebrate a career rooted in compassion and commitment. The days were filled with meaningful conversations, shared laughter, and a few heartfelt tears as we reflected on Darrell’s faithful service.

The Impact of Many Helping Hands

The volunteers generosity and teamwork made it possible to transform a place of concern into a place of safety—reminding all involved of the profound difference that caring communities can make.
