A Community of Care: Supporting Mr. Namba

A Journey of Resilience

Mr. Namba, a 62-year-old resident of West Linn, has faced significant challenges in recent years due to the pandemic and ongoing health concerns. With unwavering support from his family and medical team, he continues to work toward regaining his health and remaining safely in the home he cherishes.

Urgent Repairs Made Possible

Earlier this year, Mr. Namba’s deteriorating roof threatened not only his safety but also his insurance coverage. In March, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Catalyst was able to provide him with a brand-new roof—ensuring his home remained secure and insurable.

A Summer of Transformation

From August 21–23, Catalyst returned to address another critical issue: Mr. Namba’s unsafe and irreparable deck. Over three days, 62 volunteers contributed 371 hours to tear down the damaged structure, build a new deck, landscape the yard, and remove extensive debris—restoring safety and beauty to his outdoor space.

Welcoming New Faces

A highlight of this project was partnering with City Team of Portland for their first Catalyst initiative. The men from their residential substance abuse program brought energy, joy, and determination, making a lasting impact through their service and spirit.

We are deeply thankful to every volunteer who showed up for Mr. Namba—not just to build a deck, but to build hope. Their hard work, compassion, and connection turned a construction project into a powerful act of love and community.
