A Neighbor in Crisis

For 16 years, Ms. Hall has lived in her mobile home while managing serious respiratory health challenges. But for far too long, she endured a home that was deteriorating around her — a place that needed critical repairs simply to be safe.
Through Catalyst’s DEEP Initiative, her long journey toward restoration began. Over the past two years, we’ve been honored to walk alongside her, repairing her home step by step, phase by phase.

Two Years of Transformation

2024: A New Roof for a New Beginning
Her home received a full roof replacement — the essential first step to stopping water intrusion and preventing further damage.
2025: Strengthening the Structure
  • New ceiling insulation
  • New interior ceiling
  • Repair of rotted siding
  • Fresh exterior paint
These improvements stabilized and protected the home from the outside in.
2026: Restoring Health and Safety
  • Mold remediation
  • Wall framing repairs
  • Interior painting
This phase helped restore a healthy living environment — crucial for someone facing respiratory challenges.

The Final Volunteer Phase: Rebuilding the Floors Beneath Her Feet

In our most recent phase — the final volunteer-supported portion of this DEEP project — we addressed one of the most dangerous issues: Ms. Hall’s flooring.
Years of water intrusion had eaten away at the subfloor. In some areas, the only thing keeping her from falling through was the carpeting itself.
Volunteers stepped in with urgency and care:
  • All carpeting was removed
  • Damaged subfloor sections were cut away
  • Structural supports were reinforced with new plywood
  • Luxury vinyl plank flooring — generously donated by Paulson’s Flooring — was installed
The result: solid, clean, safe floors and a renewed sense of sanctuary.

NEI: A Partner Who Went Above and Beyond

This phase would not have been possible without the incredible partnership of Northwest Earthmovers, Inc (NEI). Their team not only supplied all volunteer labor, they also covered the entire financial cost of the project.
Sixteen volunteers contributed 136 hours — a stunning gift of time, compassion, and skill.
And they didn’t stop there.
NEI also provided:
  • Two new toilets
  • A new washer and dryer to replace non-functioning units
  • A dining table and comfortable chairs so Ms. Hall could fully enjoy her refreshed space
Their generosity transformed a house into a home.

Honoring a Life. Blessing a Neighbor.

NEI’s commitment was rooted in love and remembrance.
In September 2024, NEI lost a beloved friend and employee, Jack. After raising funds to support Jack’s partner, she made the selfless decision to use those funds to bless others in need.
The NEI Employee Team, entrusted with these donated funds, chose to direct a portion of them to Ms. Hall’s project — turning grief into goodness, and honoring Jack’s legacy in a truly meaningful way.

A Powerful Testament to Community

This project stands as a beautiful reminder of what can happen when neighbors come alongside a neighbor in need. Together, we restored:
  • Safety
  • Stability
  • Dignity
  • Hope
And we honored the life and memory of someone deeply loved.
It has been inspirational on every level — a story of humanity at its best, and a home finally restored to the place of peace Ms. Hall deserves.
