A Meaningful Community Partnership
Northwest Christian Church – Tigard proudly partnered with the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) to refresh and reimagine a dedicated space for teens in the foster care program. This collaboration was rooted in a shared desire to offer something deeply important: a place where young people feel safe, respected, and cared for during a time often marked by uncertainty.
Creating a Calming, Welcoming Environment
Volunteers came together to lovingly transform the space from the ground up. They cleared out the room, patched and repaired walls, and carefully prepared it for a fresh start. Soft, calming blue paint now fills the room, the whiteboard has been cleaned and restored, and a new TV has been installed. Furnishings and décor were thoughtfully selected to help the space feel warm, peaceful, and inviting.
Service from the Heart
Ten dedicated volunteers gave a combined 40 hours of their time to complete this project. Each hour represented compassion in action and a commitment to showing up for youth who need reassurance that they matter.
Impact Beyond the Walls
Though modest in size, the impact of this refreshed space is profound. It quietly but powerfully tells foster care teens that they are seen, valued, and worthy of dignity. In a season of life that can feel overwhelming, this room offers a sense of stability, comfort, and hope—reminding them they are not alone.
