Standing Beside Ms. Tilander
Ms. Tilander is a 69-year-old low-income homeowner who has called her Sherwood home her own for the past six years.
We first met her in early 2026, when a leaking roof began allowing water into her home. Our immediate priority was protecting her home from further damage, so Catalyst volunteers tarped the entire roof while we assessed the situation. It soon became clear that the roof had reached the end of its life. In July 2026, volunteers returned to replace it, restoring safety and security to Ms. Tilander’s home.
Support When It Matters Most
For many years, Ms. Tilander could count on her son to help with projects around the house. Tragically, he recently passed away, leaving an immeasurable void in her life. Without him, major repairs became much harder to face alone.
When we learned that her deteriorating deck had become a serious safety concern, we knew we needed to return. The deck was no longer safe, and replacing it was an important step toward helping Ms. Tilander remain safely in the home she loves.
Volunteers Making a Meaningful Difference
Over two days, 24 volunteer shifts were filled, contributing 110 volunteer hours to complete the new deck. We are deeply grateful for every volunteer who gave their time, care, and skill to make this project possible.
More Than a Home Repair
Replacing Ms. Tilander’s deck was an important critical repair, but the heart of this project was the relationship we continue to build with her. She is not simply a client—she is a friend we care deeply about.
Through the generosity of volunteers, supporters, and community partners, Catalyst is able to do more than repair homes. We have the privilege of walking alongside our neighbors, building lasting relationships, and reminding them that they are not alone.
Ms. Tilander is now part of the Catalyst family, and we are grateful to continue serving her.
