A Longtime Home in Need of Help

Tony Ryan has lived in his cozy 850 sq. ft. 1948 Portland cottage for decades. When he applied to Catalyst, his primary concern was replacing his aging roof—a project scheduled for this summer.

An Unexpected Opportunity

While preparing for the roof replacement, Catalyst’s Energy Conservation Program (ECP) team visited Mr. Ryan to conduct a free Home Energy Assessment (HEA). What they found was concerning: his only source of heat was a single Cadet wall heater, and his cooling came from a small window A/C unit in the bedroom.

A No-Cost Solution for Year-Round Comfort

Based on the Home Energy Assessment findings, the Energy Conservation Program team recommended a No-Cost Ductless Heat Pump through the Energy Trust of Oregon (ETO). This program provides qualifying individuals with energy-efficient heat pumps at no cost.

Partnerships That Make a Difference

Catalyst Energy Conservation Program partnered with The Heat Pump Store, an Energy Trust of Oregon Trade Ally, to install the new system. Thanks to ETO’s Community Partner Funding, Mr. Ryan received his ductless heat pump completely free of charge.

Perfect Timing for Portland’s Heat

The installation couldn’t have come at a better time. As Portland temperatures began to rise, Mr. Ryan was finally able to enjoy a cool, comfortable home. And when winter returns, he’ll be just as warm and cozy.
