Meeting Ms. Freeman
Ms. Freeman lives alone in her beloved 1920 home with her two poodles, Riley and River. Like many seniors, she experiences anxiety and has been hesitant to ask for help—even when she needed it most. Thankfully, a caring neighbor introduced her to Catalyst Partnerships, opening the door to much-needed home repairs and, ultimately, a beautiful outpouring of community support.
Addressing Safety and Comfort
When our team first visited Ms. Freeman’s home, we identified several critical repairs. Her damaged floors posed serious trip hazards, and her back steps were a significant safety concern. Our volunteers stepped in to replace the flooring, rebuild the back steps, and address water intrusion issues at the crawl space entrance. They also took care of minor plumbing repairs and enhanced her bathroom with new lighting and storage—small updates that made a big difference in her daily life.
A Heartwarming Birthday Surprise
The timing of this project couldn’t have been more special. On the second day of work, our volunteers discovered it was Ms. Freeman’s birthday. Without hesitation, they gathered to sing, celebrate, and present her with a birthday cake. It was a touching moment that reminded us all why we do this work—not just to repair homes, but to uplift people.
A Gift of Generosity
Adding to the celebration, our friends at Eastbank Contractor Appliance generously donated a brand-new washer and dryer for Ms. Freeman. This unexpected gift brought tears to her eyes and added another layer of joy to an already meaningful week.
Project Stats
Over the course of three days, 38 volunteers came together to contribute more than 250 hours of service. Their dedication, compassion, and joyful spirit turned a construction project into a celebration of community and care.
Thank you to everyone who made this project possible. We are continually inspired by the power of neighbors helping neighbors—and the transformation that happens when we show up with open hands and hearts.
