A Long Journey Toward Help
For nearly three decades, Ms. Hall has called her manufactured house “home.” At 55 years old and living alone, she’s faced more than her share of challenges—especially as her health has declined due to serious breathing issues. But this past year, the struggle became too much to bear alone. Her home was in disrepair, her ceiling was collapsing, and every leak in her roof was another reminder that things needed to change.
So she reached out for help—and Catalyst answered.
Step One: A New Roof, A New Beginning
In July 2024, we began the journey of restoring Ms. Hall’s home. The first and most urgent need was replacing the leaking roof. It had compromised the structure of her home and posed significant risks to her health. With the support of our generous donors and skilled volunteers, a new roof was installed—providing much more than protection from the rain. It gave Ms. Hall peace of mind.
Inside Repairs: From Collapse to Comfort
But the damage hadn’t stopped at the roof. Years of leaking had led to devastating water damage inside her home, and the ceiling had partially collapsed. In March, Catalyst volunteers got to work removing the damaged ceiling and preparing the space for restoration. Thanks to a grant from the Energy Trust of Oregon, we were also able to replace the insulation—making Ms. Hall’s home safer and more energy-efficient.
A Week of Transformation: May 7–10
Then came the heart of the project. Over four powerful days in May, 55 volunteers poured over 305 hours into finishing the interior work. They hung drywall, applied texture, and painted the ceilings in two bedrooms, a bathroom, the kitchen, and the living room. With every brushstroke and drywall screw, hope was being rebuilt.
But Catalyst’s mission is about more than just houses—it’s about people. Volunteers noticed the severe blackberry overgrowth in Ms. Hall’s yard and took it upon themselves to clear it out. What began as a home repair turned into a full restoration—inside and out.
Serving Beyond the Project
The spirit of generosity didn’t stop at Ms. Hall’s property. When a neighbor and former Catalyst client mentioned they also needed blackberry removal, the team responded immediately. With joy and zero hesitation, they showed up—because that’s what neighbors do.
Gratitude and Grace in Action
This project stands as a testimony to what can happen when people serve with compassion and purpose. Ms. Hall’s home is no longer a place of stress and danger—it’s a sanctuary of peace, healing, and new beginnings.
We are humbled and grateful to every volunteer, partner, and donor who made this possible. Thank you for being part of something that matters. Thank you for loving your neighbor.
One home restored. One life changed. And a community reminded of the power of showing up.
